Charles Leo Burgess was born April 2, 1907 in Detroit, Michigan. Though he only acquired an 8th grade education, he went on to write over 45 true crime stories for such magazines as Official Detective Stories, Revealing Detective and Confidential Detective from 1945 to the mid‐1960s. Burgess also published two novels — Backfire and The Other Woman — plus one short story for Manhunt. He died in April 1967 in Lakeland, Florida.
