Paul Warren Fairman was born August 22, 1909, in St. Louis, Missouri. Though he wrote a few crime novels and became managing editor of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine in 1958, he is best known in the world of science fiction. Fairman was the founding editor of If, then became editor of Amazing Stories and Fantastic. Many of his sf stories were made into films (Target Earth and Invasion of the Saucer Men) and TV episodes (Twilight Zone and The Unexpected). He also wrote TV/movie tie-ins, as well as westerns, gothics, young adult fiction and The Man from S.T.U.D. series under the pseudonym F. W. Paul. Fairman died in October 1977, in Newark, New Jersey.
