Theodore Strauss was born on December 27, 1912 in Oklahoma. His first novel, Night at Hogwallow (1937), was well received by the New York Times, where he became the paper's second‐string film critic until 1944, when he left to become a Hollywood screenwriter. His only other novel, Moonrise, was published in 1946, then adapted for the 1948 film of the same name. Strauss began working for Life magazine and in 1956 became editor of Woman's Home Companion. In 1957 he returned to the film industry in the story department at 20th Century‐Fox. In the 1960s‐80s, he produced a series of television documentaries and in 1966 he won a Writers Guild of America Award for the film The Legend of Marilyn Monroe. Strauss died on October 30, 2009.
